IELTS Test Fee and Test Format

IELTS, with its changing fee every year, is recognized by more than 10 thousand institutions and organizations for those who want to study or live in a country where the native language is English. The test is conducted in two modules, Academic and General Training, measures four basic skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. So how much is the IELTS test fee and how is the test format?


This section, which measures listening skill, consists of 40 questions including different question types and lasts 30 minutes. While 10 minutes is given to transfer your answers to the answers sheet on paper based IELTS, no extra time is given on computer delivered IELTS as you need to write on the computer when you hear the answers.

Also, in both paper based and computer delivered IELTS tests, headphones are provided for Listening sections only in IDP IELTS!


In this section where reading skill is measured, you are expected to answer 40 questions within 60 minutes. There are a total of 3 texts in the Reading section, where there are many types of question types such as filling in spaces, matching, true-false-not given and multiple choice.


In the IELTS Writing section, your ability to express your thoughts in written is measured. The Writing section, has two tasks, lasts 60 minutes. How long you spend on each task is entirely up to you, but it is recommended to spend 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.

The Speaking test takes about 11 – 14 minutes and helds like a a casual conversation. In the Speaking test, which has three parts, you will have a comfortable test experience with friendly examiners and test rooms away from distractions. In addition, with the IDP IELTS, the Speaking test takes place face to face with a real examiner in all test!*

*Unless otherwise is stated in the confirmation email sent to you, your Speaking test will be held as video call.


Your test is evaluated according to a band score table. You will receive one point for each correct answer, with the total points determining your band score. Each question you answer correctly in the Listening and Reading sections earns you 1 point and it is matched with band scores. This band scores can be full or half. Learn how your test is evaluated.

IELTS Application and Test Dates

IDP IELTS conducts test in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Bursa and Muğla. For now, computer delivered IELTS is only available in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Antalya. Find test dates and nearest test centre

There is no registration fee or registration transaction fee or late registration fee.
